Did You Know?
Did you know that there are critically ill
patients that are eligible for wonderful
therapy programs, such as swimming with
the dolphins, but do not have a car to get
them there?
We want to give them the transportation
to get there- taxi fares, bus fares, etc.
Did you know that some hospitals only have
one video game system to be shared
among the entire pediatric oncology floor?
We want to collect enough money to
donate more of these game systems to the
hospitals so that the patients do not have
to wait so long for their turn to play.
Did you know that some parents spend day
and night in the hospital while their child is
admitted and do not have the money for
breakfast, lunch or dinner?
We want to give them meal tickets for
the hospital cafeteria, so they do not
have to worry about what they are going
to eat or the expenses of their food.
Can you imagine losing your hair and
having to worry about what you are going
to wear to start school? I used bandannas
made by my Aunt Tere through my entire
treatment because even though wigs are a
great alternative, they were too hot for
Florida weather, so
We want to make bandannas for all
cancer patients to be able to use as an
alternative.
Can you imagine being 5 years old, 8
years old, or 15 years old and spending your
birthday and holidays, like Thanksgiving,
Christmas, etc., in the hospital?
We want to collect enough money to
cater a wonderful dinner for the
patients and their families on these
special occasions.
Can you imagine being critically ill
everyday of your life, needing
chemotherapy, radiation, blood transfusions
and platelets just to keep you alive?
We want to offer cancer patients and
their families a Bed and Breakfast
weekend get-away to forget the real
world and renew their strength
for their daily battles.
Can you imagine how bored a child can be,
laying in a bed for hours or days at time?
I know from my experience that at the
hospital or at home, I looked forward to
having things to entertain me or receiving
little gifts to keep me going through these
days of worry and pain.
We want to prepare "Care Packages"
and send them to children with cancer.
We want to fill them up with "goodies"
like quilts, bandannas, videos, books,
stuffed animals, cards, arts and
crafts, and special Get Well notes.
